Happy Black History Month! In 1926, Carter G. Woodson had a goal to educate people about Black history and culture, particularly in public schools. Now, almost 100 years later, February is recognized as Black History Month and celebrated throughout the United States. Given that education about Black history and culture was one of Carter G. Woodson’s primary goals for the month, we wanted to highlight a beautiful display created by Teaching Assistant, Pamela McKinley, on one of the Golisano program’s bulletin boards at The School at Springbrook. The display highlights inspirational figures from the Black community, as well as quotes to remember the legacy of influential leaders like Martin Luther King Jr. and Maya Angelou. Thank you, Pamela, for creating a meaningful and creative display to educate students about Black history!
