This week, Donor Dollars at Work would like to introduce you to John York.

John York is the latest intern working with the Springbrook Foundation. He is a second-year student in the SUNY Oneonta Cooperstown Graduate Program. There, John is focused on the history of museum studies and nonprofit management. Originally from Kansas City, Missouri, John has five years of teaching experience in a classroom, in addition to years of supporting children and creating community connections. As an intern with the Springbrook Foundation, John is learning about the annual fund, grant writing, as well as the collaborative research that makes Springbrook stand out.

Most recently, John helped brighten the day of Springbrook staff, students, and residents when he assisted with the delivery of the Valentine’s Day carnation drive. Presently, John is researching the changing landscape of fundraising and the generational differences between donors and their preferences for interacting with nonprofit organizations.

John had this to say about his work thus far: “My new colleagues are wonderful and believe deeply in the good that their work does. I am excited for what the next couple of months will bring!”

John is one of 20 interns currently working with Springbrook and represents one of many colleges and universities with whom Springbrook has partnered. These partnerships include SUNY Oneonta, Hartwick College, SUNY Cortland, Russel Sage College, Utica University, and Binghamton University. Student interns are mentored by staff in the therapy department, nursing, administration, and School at Springbrook.
