Today, we highlight Michael, who utilizes Springbrook’s Self-Direct Services for independent living, and his job at Colgate University. Michael has been working with self-hired staff member Shannon for 13 years, and she has seen Michael progress in many ways throughout that time. Michael has his own apartment and a dog named Max, and one of his favorite things to do at home is garden. Last year, he grew squash, cucumbers, potatoes, strawberries, and more. He hopes to eventually own a home to have more space to garden and for his dog to run.

In September 2023, with Self-Direct Employment Services, Michael obtained a part-time job in a dining hall at Colgate University. Michael enjoys the independence, socialization, and routine that working at Colgate brings to his life, and his supervisor and co-workers are very pleased with his work performance. Michael is now more outgoing and has made many new friends at Colgate. Thank you, Michael, for bringing a positive attitude to everything you do!
