With the 2024 Springbrook Community Art Show, “Follow Your Heart”, just around the corner, we’re excited to shine a spotlight on a few artists who will be showcasing their work! To kick things off, let’s introduce Jeffrey Bourgois Jr. Drawing inspiration from 1980s pop culture, comic books, requests from his family and peers, and designs of his imagination, Jeffrey constructs digital prints using programs on his iPad like Notability and Adobe Creative Cloud. Jeffrey has been creating art “every second of every day” since he was six.

Jeffrey shared this about his art and his recent creative process, “This past year, there has been a lot of personal growth. I’ve had to face some of my fears and push forward. When going through those dark times, I needed to surround myself with the light… [The people and things] that bring me joy and help combat depression. Making art makes me happy and helps me in those challenging times. Some of these pieces are about resilience and mental health, overcoming things that I fear, and the beauty in that. But there were also moments of happiness and things that brought me joy. Relying on faith, spending time with my dogs, and having the right people and supports, have been key to helping me grow.”

Be sure to visit the Community Gallery at the Fenimore Art Museum from April 2nd to the 30th to experience this showcase of artwork.
